As well as studying the Level 3 course, Ellie Lawrance also works at Pets at Home as a Veterinary Care Assistant in Chippenham.
The 17-year-old said: “Throughout the lockdown my work has been important, as have all veterinary practices, as we are taking in emergencies and occasional smaller procedures to provide the necessary care for animals that need us.
“I have been arranging consultations over the phone between the vets and clients to identify emergency appointments and there has been a lot of deep cleaning involved of anything that has been touched and of the consultation rooms.
“There have been some stressful moments, but I have enjoyed my work and been using the quieter times to deep clean and organise within the practice which has been successful.”
Ellie, a former Hardenhuish School pupil, has always loved being around animals and helping them and says her dream job is to be a veterinary surgeon or a vet for larger animals at a zoo.
She said studying at Lackham would help her achieve that dream.
“The practical involvement with animals, the trip opportunities and the subjects actually studied within the course helped make my decision to come to Lackham.
“I enjoy all of the practical’s as well as biology and nutrition.
“I started working at the vets before I started my course and as well as being a veterinary assistant and also the kennel assistant so I help to look after the pets once they are in our care and assist with taking bloods and other procedures.”
