We love it when former students come back to see us – particularly when they want to pass on their advice to those who are studying with us now.
This week, Steven Roberts returned to Wiltshire College & University Centre’s Trowbridge campus to speak to Catering & Hospitality students about his experience in the industry.
Steven finished his studies with us in 2006 and has since gone on to a successful career as a chef. After working in several restaurants, Steven now works as a private chef at SR Dining.
Students were also treated to a cooking demo as Steven served his signature pork fillet dish, all under the watchful eye of his former lecturer – and still Deputy Head of Department for Hospitality at WCUC – Steve Lloyd.
Steven said: “It was a genuinely huge moment, returning to the College to do a cooking demo and inspire the next generation.
“Anyone who knew me back then would never have thought that me of all people would be going back as an ex-student to talk about my journey.
“I did a cooking demo and chatted about the business, the struggles of the trade, my own college days and the need to never give up.
“I was so nervous going in and having to talk in front of a group but when I was back in the same kitchens I learnt in with the same mentor, I felt at home.”
Thanks for visiting, Steven. The students loved hearing your expert tips!
