A range of activities are planned at Wiltshire College & University Centre to mark the 15th annual National Apprenticeship Week.

Wiltshire College & University Centre is to celebrate its diverse apprenticeships offering during National Apprenticeship Week next week.

National Apprenticeship Week is organised by the Government and is an annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships that takes place across England. The 2022 edition runs from Monday, 7th February to Sunday, 13th February and will be the 15th running of the event.

Wiltshire College & University Centre is one of the leading providers of apprenticeships in the South West and currently has more than 1,600 apprentices enrolled on a training programme. The College works with around 700 amazing employer partners and offers training programmes in more than 60 different sectors.

Jennifer Mellows, Vice Principal Curriculum and Business Development at the College, said: “Apprenticeships are a huge part of Wiltshire College & University Centre and we’re proud that so many apprentices and businesses utilise our services to develop their workplace skills while gaining a qualification in the process.

“National Apprenticeship Week is always a brilliant event and a great way of marking the incredible achievements of our apprenticeship students. It’s something we look forward to every year.

“We would like to thank all of our apprentices for the hard work they have shown throughout the past 12 months, and also the huge range of businesses we work with for their continued support in training people to gain nationally recognised qualifications working alongside experienced professionals.”

Although the College’s National Apprenticeship Week activities will largely take place online again this year owing to the pandemic, a range of events are still planned.

Existing apprenticeship students, successful apprenticeship graduates and businesses will deliver informative online talks to prospective apprenticeship students. Businesses already signed up to take part include Wiltshire Council, Cross Manufacturing, Mander Duffill and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The talks will explore the wide variety of benefits that are offered by apprenticeships to both students and employers. They will be streamed live in relevant classrooms and will then be made available on the College’s website for everyone to access afterwards.

The College’s Business Development team will also take part in a range of activities on site at various of its employer partners.

An online presentation from the Apprenticeships Team will be delivered to all tutorial classes throughout the week, while on-site stands will be set up at the College’s Chippenham, Lackham, Salisbury and Trowbridge campuses for current students to access more information on how to start an apprenticeship.

For prospective students, apprenticeships talks and stands will be held at the Open Days at the College’s Chippenham and Salisbury campuses on Wednesday, 9th February and Thursday, 10th February. Both Open Days run from 5pm-7pm and attendance must be registered in advance via the College’s website. For those unable to attend, an apprenticeship talk from the Chippenham Open Day will be broadcast live on the College’s social media channels at approximately 5.30pm.
