Five students from Wiltshire College & University have been selected by University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body to showcase their work at the Origins Creatives 2024 exhibition in London this July.
Eddie Ledua (Art & Design Level 3 Year 1) and Arthur Blakey (Art & Design Level 2) have both been selected from the Chippenham campus, while Salisbury students Jamie Hanrahan (Art & Design Level 3 Year 2) Sasha Hollis (Art & Design Level 3 Year 1) and Dom Kirby (Music Level 3 Year 2) also feature after catching the attention of UAL Awarding Body’s curator, Charlie Levine, amongst over 500 submissions.
Jamie's entry is an oil painting which reimagines ancient Greek mythology. She said: “Having my painting included in the exhibition is both astonishing and an honour. The course allowed me a lot of freedom to explore both different mediums and themes. As continuing painting and creating is important to me, I’ve accepted a place at Bath Spa University next year to study fine art.”
Sasha’s project is a menswear look she made responding to the theme ‘Weather’. She said: “I was nervous about my work being sent off to this exhibition but really happy too that it was being considered. I had a really fun and interesting time making the piece for my final unit project and now to know that it is being shown in a gallery in London is just so surreal.”
Origins Creatives is a free exhibition that is organised by UAL Awarding Body. The event offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts, critics, and industry professionals in the creative sector to discover original talent and to celebrate the dedication and hard work of young creatives from across the UK and internationally.
Origins Creatives provides a platform for emerging talent to be seen and celebrated, connecting them with potential collaborators, industry leaders, and a wider audience.
The exhibition highlights the exceptional work of students from centres across the UK, showcasing their talent across the UAL subject areas of Art and Design, Fashion Business and Retail, Creative Media, Music Performance and Production, Performing Arts, Entry Level 3 in Art and Design and Performing Arts, Professional Diplomas, and the Extended Project Qualification.
This year, Origins Creatives will be an in-person exhibition at the Mall Galleries in central London. The exhibition will launch with an invite-only opening night on 16 July. It will be open to the public from 17-20 July, alongside an online showcase.
The exhibition will showcase selected work created by students from Entry Level and Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 across all subject areas. Attendees can expect to see a diverse range of painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, fashion and more.
