Creative Arts students at Wiltshire College & University Centre brought the curtain down on their annual end-of-year exhibition with a spectacular Fashion Show.
The event showcased all final projects created by students on Art & Design and Fashion & Textiles programmes across all levels. More than 130 outfits were paraded on the catwalk in the hour-long show, with designs encompassing a wide variety of styles, themes and ideas.
Some designs also reflected students’ recent project with Dorothy House, which saw garments made up from the charity’s ‘rag bags’ – clothing items donated that are unsuitable for sale.
The event took place at Emmanuel’s Yard in Trowbridge and involved more than 70 students working in various roles such as models, stage management, filming, music and wardrobe. More than 150 guests were in attendance, with the audience made up of family and friends of students involved, as well as college staff, local dignitaries and industry guests, and representatives from Dorothy House.
Helen Chivers, Lecturer in Fashion & Textiles at WCUC, said: “The Fashion Show was as huge success, and it was wonderful to be able to showcase the enormous variety of projects students have worked tirelessly on over the last academic year. Many of the outfits were visually striking and represented contemporary themes such as sustainability, protest and a live Emporium project with Dorothy House, as well as bespoke themes that were meaningful to students.
“We’re enormously grateful to everyone at Emmanuel’s Yard for allowing us to use their fantastic facilities to host the event, and to students and staff from across other departments who supported the event in various roles and enabled it to be such a success.”
Ifer studies Level 3 Fashion & Textiles at the Trowbridge campus and said: “I have always liked fashion and I know it is the industry I want to work in. The course has a really good reputation, and it will give me the best options and opportunities when I think about applying for university.
“The course is quite wide ranging, and it looks at all aspects of the fashion industry. We don’t just do garment making, we look at other aspects such as marketing and photography, all things like that.”
