Students on Wiltshire College & University Centre’s BA (Hons) Film Production and Cinematography course were the beneficiaries of more excellent industry advice last week with another expert guest talk.
Experienced TV and commercials director Simon Delaney visited the College’s Salisbury campus to speak to students as well as deliver a special directing workshop.
Simon’s directing career spans almost 30 years and has seen him direct episodes of high-profile TV shows such as Cold Feet, Death in Paradise, and Scott and Bailey, to name a few.
With the help of two local actors, Stephanie Richards and Aine Tiernan, Simon’s workshop showed students how to effectively and diplomatically direct actors in a way that gets the best performance.
Kieron Evans, Programme Lead on the College’s BA (Hons) Film Production and Cinematography course, said: “We are extremely grateful to Simon for giving up his time to speak to students and deliver what was a very insightful workshop.
“Hearing techniques and practices from industry experts is the best way for students to learn and I know they all benefitted from hearing all about Simon’s experience.”
Last month, film students were visited by a successful graduate of the course when Bethany Spence returned to the Salisbury campus to talk about her career.
Since graduating in 2013, Bethany has gone onto work on feature films such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), Wonder Woman (2017), and the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion (2022).
