Course Overview

If you love drawing this is the perfect course for you. Openness to experimentation is necessary, but no prior experience is required. You will be supported in your learning through demonstrations, group/peer discussions, handouts, and one-one-tutorials. You will explore a range of drawing materials and processes. Considering the work of other artists will help you to evaluate your own creations. Do you know how to use surface, mark-making, space, composition, scale, unconventional materials, and intentionality? Come along and find out about these exciting concepts related to image making and meaning.

What will I learn?

The aim of the course is to equip you with the confidence and knowledge to experiment with a variety of contemporary drawing media and processes. We will look at a range of drawings from the 1950’s to the present day, realist, abstract, modernist, and post-modernist for inspiration.

On completion, you should be able to: recognise the drawing potential of both two and three-dimensional materials; apply the basic rules of composition; make conscious choices in your drawings, understand the relevance of evaluating other contemporary artists’ work and reviewing your own work.

Study, Assessment and Qualifications

Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course tutor.
