Course Overview
If you're interested in developing your skills in drawing and painting with watercolours, this is the perfect course for you. No experience is necessary, our lecturer caters for all ability levels, providing a high degree of individual help and attention. All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to experiment with different techniques!
What will I learn?
The aim of the course is to help you to develop your observational skills and stimulate your creativity while exploring different processes in both drawing and watercolour painting. A broad subject range will be covered including sketching on location, still life, and studying other artists through gallery visits.
The following topics will be covered during the course:
Drawing Techniques - using pencil, coloured pencil, charcoal and pastel etc. to develop gradations of tone created by shading, hatching and cross hatching
Paint Techniques - flat and graded washes, wet-in-wet, wet-on-dry, creating highlights, textures and effects
Composition and Observational Skills – developing compositional and observation skills to gain a deeper understanding of organising what we see
Colour Mixing – the emotive, transparent, opaque and staining qualities of watercolour Subjects - a broad subject range will be covered including landscape, architecture and figures
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Assessment is informal, based on your personal targets and the learning outcomes and will be undertaken regularly with you by the course lecturer. There are no final qualifications associated with this course.

There are no entry requirements associated with this course.
Additional Costs and Information
You should bring with you drawing pencils (HB, 2B & 4B), a putty rubber and a sketchbook to the first session. The tutor will advise you about any additional equipment and materials you may subsequently need.
Please note that there is no parking at the Methuen Centre. The closest car park is in the High Street, adjacent to The Methuen Arms, where there is a charge for parking.
You may wish to bring some small change for refreshments.
This course runs on one day per week at the Methuen Centre, Corsham and the dates are:
