Course Overview
This course is aimed at 16-18 year-old students whose first language is not English. You may be a young person who has attended school in the UK but need to improve your level of English in order to study other subjects. You may have just arrived in the UK and want to study English before you do another course at the College.
What will I learn?
The course is designed to help you build your skills and confidence in English to help you to live, study or work in the UK. You will study grammar, vocabulary, speaking and listening skills, writing skills, reading skills and functions of English. The exact syllabus will depend on whether you are studying at Entry Level 1, 2 or 3.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
During the course you will work towards three exams – in speaking and listening, reading, and writing – and will also do a mock exam practice.
You will be given coursework to complete outside of class, which will support your studies, as well as an Individual Learning Plan, which you will use to focus on your personal learning targets.
The qualification you will receive is the Certificate in Skills for Life ESOL at Entry Level 1, 2 or 3.
Entry Requirements
• A basic knowledge of English.
• An interview to assess your current level of English .
• You should be working at Entry Level 1 or above (CEFR equivalent is A1), however, we accept students on the course even if they do not have a qualification at this level.
Additional Costs and Information
You may need to buy a set of course textbooks. Your tutor will advise you on this when you start the course.
