Delivered at our Lackham campus, this course is designed to help you secure the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career within the animal industries.This course offers the opportunity to develop professional standards alongside underpinning knowledge as well as covering a wide scope of topics that will support a range of careers within the industry.The course would also be suitable for applicants interested in a wide range of potential careers e.g. Animal Health, Welfare Officers, Rehoming and Rescue Centres, Technicians, Zookeepers etc.

You will be required to study one of the two optional modules subject to class size and availability.
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Assessment across the course includes written assignments e.g. posters, reports and case studies, presentations and seminars.
The emphasis is on assessment coursework but you may have to complete short in class tests / exams to support the completion of criteria and test your understanding within classes.
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve an Higher National Diploma (HND) Animal Management (Behaviour and Welfare), awarded by Pearson.
Entry Requirements
At least 4 GCSEs at grade C (4) or above including English and Maths (or equivalent level 2 qualifications) plus one or more of the following:
- 48 UCAS Tariff Points from an appropriate level 3 vocational programme (e.g. BTEC National Diploma).
- A Level 3 Extended Diploma or GCE AS / A Level or a 6 unit Vocational A Level.
- Success in an Access to Higher Education Diploma.
- Formally assessed outcomes acquired through recognised prior learning or experience.
Applications from mature candidates are welcomed and considered on an individual basis.
Where English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent qualification will normally be required.
Applicants without the qualifications specified will be considered based on their ability to study the subject at the required level.
You may be required to attend an interview and you can apply for this programme through UCAS.

Katrina is a highly-skilled and knowledgeable wildlife expert and is a lecturer on the College’s HNC and HND Animal Management (Behaviour and Welfare) course.
Katrina joined the College in 1998 as a part-time lecturer and technician within the Animal Centre at our Lackham campus. Since then, she has taught a wide range of subjects and levels within the animal care and land-based departments. She specialises in animal anatomy and physiology, animal behaviour, research projects and animal diversity and evolution.
While working at the College, Katrina completed a Masters (Sc) degree in Behavioural Ecology at the University of Bristol, becoming one of the first part-time Masters students in her area of study at the university. Her thesis concerned the visual abilities of woodland birds. She previously studied Zoology at the University of Wales, Swansea. Read more...
