Course Overview
Advanced Sports Turf Technician role is responsible for ensuring that the playing surfaces are suitably prepared. They will also have responsibilities across the wider facility. They supervise staff or volunteers and are responsible for ensuring that the playing surface is suitably prepared and maintained in line with the rules of the relevant sport. They will have responsibility for the safe use and maintenance of irrigation, drainage, equipment, and machinery used by operatives.
What will I learn?
• Supervise and undertake the preparation and maintenance of the playing surface
• Evaluate performance and agronomic data of playing surfaces
• Prepare sports turf machinery and supervise maintenance programmes for equipment and machinery
• Supervise and mentor operatives and report on staff performance
• Ensure a safe working environment and the adoption of legal working practices including the reviewing of risk assessments
Study, Assessment and Qualifications
Apprenticeship Standard Level 3 - Advanced Sports Turf Technician
Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1) along with either PA2 (Boom Sprayer) OR PA6 (Handheld Applicators)
Entry Requirements
Maths and English L2 or GCSE grades 4(C) or above. If you don’t have these, you will need to complete these prior to completion of the apprenticeship programme (Gateway).
You must have secured a position with an employer and be ready to start working with them before you can begin your apprenticeship course.

Additional Costs and Information
Delivered one day a week at our Lackham campus during term time only, in the workplace and/or blended learning with a visit from your tutor every 10 to 12 weeks.
