Who are we?
Wiltshire College Football Academy is open to any student enrolled on a programme of study at Wiltshire College. We have teams representing the college and University Centre in Men’s, Women’s and Ability Counts (SEND) leagues. This is an exciting opportunity for keen footballers who will be exposed to some of the best facilities within the South of England, creating and replicating a full time, professional programme. Students will be able to gain additional football and sport qualifications in addition to their main qualification, building a football-specific element towards their CV.
Our ethos and what we do
We Provide technical and tactical training sessions twice a week as well as a games programme with sides representing the college in the ECFA (English College Football Association) Southern Division, The County Schools Cup and the ECFA National Cup.
Our ethos creates an environment where individuals of all abilities can join the academy programme. We have teams playing at various levels of competition and we provide all students with an opportunity to play in fixtures. We aim to improve the ability of all participants within the academy, from students with little experience of playing competitively to players who are currently or have previously played at a high level. We provide additional support through 4 hours of training per week, our PlayerTek GPS trackers measuring individuals distance covered, sprint speed, providing individual heat maps for players in both training and games. In addition to this, all fixtures are filmed for students to review both individual and team performance. Our team of coaching staff will work with each player, setting personalised targets on the football (ILP) Individual Learning Plan.
Our department has worked hard to build relationships with a variety of clubs across the county, which can provide all students with suitable exit routes at a range of levels if they are without a club or looking to progress through the football pyramid. Students are however under no pressure to divert from their current club commitments and they can continue to represent their club whilst accessing the academy benefits.
Who we are?
Wiltshire College Rugby Academy is one of the developed Sports Academies running within the college which is open to all students looking to study at the college. It is an integral part of the sports department, running alongside our sports courses, to allow for students to develop their abilities on the rugby field, alongside developing individuals experience and qualifications to excel within the industry.
Our ethos and what we do
The Rugby Academy looks to develop a competitive environment where all students feel part of a unique sports team and are all striving to improve individually and as a group. The team will be competing in the AOC South East Men’s Rugby Union League as well as the regional competition, which lead into a national competition if the team is successful through the regional competition, and other competitive friendlies. We want players to get the full experience of a rugby academy to improve their performances as well as their experience with the college. The academy will use elite level technology to help analyse the performance of both the team and the individual players. Alongside rugby fixtures and training sessions, students will get the opportunity to be part of a strength and conditioning programme to help excel their performance.
The Wiltshire College Rugby Academy also looks to develop students off the rugby field as well as on by providing opportunities to gain rugby coaching qualifications and experience within a coaching or refereeing environment. The academy works with a number of local rugby clubs and the Bath Rugby Foundation to provide opportunities to enhance coaching experiences as well as other areas of the industry.
Every student who is enrolled at Wiltshire College is welcome to join the rugby programme, no matter their ability. We look to provide an experience which is enjoyable and challenging to all who are part of the programme. We want participants to have an attitude where they want to improve and learn from the programme and commit to the expectations and standards set by the coaching team and the academy playing squad.

The new brand new Sports Science Lab at our Salisbury campus is equipped to provide fitness testing for everyone from amateur to professional athletes.
It can facilitate various gas and blood analysis tests, allowing our students to learn about and provide advice on many aspects of sports performance, fitness, health and wellbeing.
Martin Starke, breakfast presenter at Spire FM, visited the Lab and took a VO2 max test with Dan Racey, our Deputy Head of Health and Life Sciences at Salisbury. Take a look here to see how he got on!
